Celebrating Seven Years of Jams at Fresh Oranges

Every first Friday at 1800 Ojeman, you’ll find the walls bumping with some of the city’s best talent, some of the city’s best musicians. They treat the stage like a playground during the jam session, trading instruments, just vibing. The mic stays open for anybody who’s honest enough to share their opinion. The drinks are cheap, they keep them flowing, and there’s probably a really good mom and pop vendor in the back for food. It’s a good time. Some would call it an unassuming time, but Fresh Oranges really squeezes the best talent out of Houston into one room.

Fresh Oranges was founded by John MBK, with sounds by DJ Mocha Loc. The night typically starts off with performances from a band, an artist, or whoever’s on the lineup that week. From 9 to 11, that’s the show. After that, the stage opens up and it turns into the jam session, running from 11 to 2. That’s when things really loosen up. The structure fades, people jump in and out, and the night becomes whatever the room needs it to be.
